Daniel Brooks is considered to be one of the most important contemporary Anglo-Canadian theatre-makers of his generation. A prolific and versatile artist, his innovation and risk-taking have made him a leader within the Canadian cultural landscape for over twenty years.
As a director, writer, actor and teacher, his work has travelled across Canada and internationally. Some of his creations include The Lorca Play, House, Here Lies Henry, Monster and Cul-de-Sac (all with Daniel MacIvor); The Noam Chomsky Lectures and Insomnia (with Guillermo Verdecchia); Bigger Than Jesus (with Rick Miller) and The Good Life. His work as a director has included John Mighton’s Possible Worlds and Half Life; as well as critically acclaimed productions of Goethe’s Faust, and Beckett’s Endgame.
A tremendous mentor and inspiration to an entire generation of theatre artists, Daniel Brooks has been recognized with accolades and awards throughout Canada and around the world. Most recently, he was the inaugural recipient of the Siminovitch Prize in Theatre for directing (the most prestigious theatre award in Canada).
